Bolu Province History

The oldest known civilization in Bolu is the Hittites. Bolu, the Phrygians after the Hittites, Persians when the Macedonian king Alexander the Great was included in the territory. Remains of these fortifications can be seen in the area of ​​the Carpet Fortress in the north of the city. After the Malazgirt victory in 1071, the Turkmens spread to the west and settled in Bolu after 3 years. The commanders of the Seljuk State, Artuk, Tutuk, Danişmend, Karateki and Saltuk Bey, under the command of Suleyman Shah, took to the border of Istanbul. During these raids, Bolu was conquered by Ashaaddin Khorasan.

The Ottoman influx of Bolu was first initiated by Osman Gazi. The complete conquest of the Bolu region coincided with the early years of the Orhan Gazi period (1324 – 1326). At the end of the national struggle periods under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha, Bolu completed the reign of the governor on 10 October 1923 and became a province.
